2.Researchers are building robots that can build themselves

At the system’s center are voxels (a term borrowed from computer graphics), which carry power and data that can be shared between pieces. The pieces form the foundation of the robot, grabbing and attaching additional voxels before moving across the grid for further assembly. The researchers note in an associated paper published in Nature , “Our approach challenges the convention that larger constructions need larger machines to build them, and could be applied in areas that today either require substantial capital investments for fixed infrastructure or are altogether unfeasible.” Developing the proper level of intelligence for these systems is a big hurdle. 5.This AI Supercomputer Has 13.5 Million Cores — and Was Built in Just Three Days

Artificial intelligence is on a tear. Machines can speak, write, play games, and generate original images, video, and music. But as AI’s capabilities have grown, so too have its algorithms. A decade ago, machine learning algorithms , or parameters. Today’s algorithms regularly reach into the hundreds of billions and even trillions of parameters . Researchers say scaling up still yields performance gains, and models with tens of trillions of parameters may arrive in short order. To train models that big, you need powerful computers. Whereas AI in the early 2010s ran on a handful of graphics processing units — computer chips that excel at […]

6.Elon Musk Has Reportedly Been Hiding That SBF Secretly Owns Part of Twitter

In the days since FTX s collapse into bankruptcy, few — if any — public figures seem to have taken greater joy in the public shaming of Sam Bankman-Fried, the crypto exchange s disgraced ex-CEO, than freshly minted Twitter owner Elon Musk. Musk has used his newly purchased social site to post bizarre FTX memes , applaud himself for recognizing SBF s apparent “ bullshit “ from day one, and even accuse The New York Times of downplaying SBF s alleged criminality, among other attacks. “Everyone was talking about him like he s walking on water and has a zillion dollars,” Musk […]

The Competition and Markets Authority said Tuesday it’s opening a formal investigation into the duo’s dominance of the mobile browser market as well as potential curbs on the distribution of cloud gaming services through Apple’s App Store. The CMA’s escalation follows hard-hitting findings of a 356-page report into competition for mobile operating systems and apps, which concluded that Google and Apple had an effective duopoly and played a “gatekeeper role.” Responses to the study found support for a deeper review of the way Apple and Google dominate mobile browser market and how Apple restricts cloud gaming through its App Store. “Many UK […]
